MS Word

Hello blog! Some experiences I've had on Microsoft Word from experiences from K-12 and at FSU has ranged from taking classes that helped me get familiarized with Microsoft Word and extending to google docs. During high school I took a variety of vocational classes that taught me how to use Microsoft Word to the fullest extent as far as editing pictures and even transferring to other Microsoft products. As for my experiences at FSU, during the summer of 2023, I took a class that gave instructions of Microsoft products including word where I would have to follow a list of instructions for a grade. Most of my classes have required me to use Microsoft Word, as I usually prefer to use this due its variety in possibilities such as transferring to all my electronics regardless of where I am. Google docs has always been an option, and I prefer using it to do group work, it wouldn't be my first choice of Microsoft Word. Another additional product that's a word processing software is the Notes app on Apple products, which I used from time to time but only to transfer between my iPad, iPhone and Mac, not to my home desktop.

ISTE Standards for Educators

ISTE Standards for Educators as I originally understood was to provide a map to help students and only students. But the more I researched and took time to learn about it, the insight I gained was its more than just helping students rather a full circle that's meant for students, educators, and leaders. As combining all three as I would justify make up the ISTE Standards as a whole; I believe that its meant for figures that are trying to improve themselves and those around them. Some concerns at first were, that it was direct without feedback, where it would be considered a manual and less of a guide, but to the contrary it's meant to promote feedback not only between educators but students as well. I also had a concern at first when I was learning about it that it would reach a capacity of where you could apply this where it was just for online or in person lessons but it's more than that and extends to as far as technology, learning topics, and certifications. I would consider the ISTE to be the ultimate guide where you can learn to stay in the loop of teaching with technology whether its remote or on-site and to be aware of the challenges and struggles.

Digital Native

Digital Native is meant to be a term where it describes younger generations being comfortable and born into a world of modern technology and being fluent in using it. Where the counter-term would be Digital Immigrants and that's meant to be for older generations who weren't born into the advanced modern technology and have grown accustomed to using it. The biggest differences that I've experienced when seeing digital natives versus digital immigrants have been usually at school. Where more older teachers who weren't in the in what I liked to reference as technological revolution, or the spur of technology in the early 1990's and onward, tend to have a harder time grasping on. I would describe it as reversed roles, where a parent has to teach and guide their children through life but rather in this case the children become the parents and they have to teach them how to live in a tech world. This has impacted a majority of my K-12 education as only a handful of teachers where tech-versed and they would make rigorous assignments meant to challenge me and grow from it. Where other educators who weren't as tech leaned struggled to make the same assignments and would label them as "hard" but to the contrary in my experience, were easy. Instead of taking 3-4 hours, I would finish the assignment within 30 minutes on average and would still score in the A range. Some differences I anticipate between my students and myself would be the relations I had with my previous teachers who were well versed in technology. I can see myself creating rigorous assignments that aims to improve them through a certain level of difficulty, as I stay in the tech loop by building computers, coding, buying new generation technology and scroll through social medias to keep up to date with softwares. I believe as a future educator, I won't fail my students on technology aspect, rather enhance and strive to increase their ethics and knowledge.
