Copyright and Fair Use

Hey blog! Copyright and fair use have a variety of rules that must be followed if you're to cite or use something correctly. As a graphic designer and content creator, it's important to teach others that they have every possibility and opportunity to create their own work. Some instructional material that I would use would be like the act of "tracing", where I have them familiarize with something by explaining what it is, what it does, how it's used and how they can use it. For example if I'm teaching my students how to draw something, I can show them how to draw something and handout copies as an example. This helps build confidence in students abilities and helps promote practice makes perfect concept. During my time as a summer-camp counselor at an art museum where I helped students create art, I learned that with patience, some assistance, and guidance they build their confidence up to the point where they can continue working on their own.

Academic Dishonesty

Academic Dishonesty is the concept of being dishonest in either contribution or engagement in any academic activity. For example cheating on an assignment, copying of someone else, sabotaging someone or even falsification. I intend to help my students in the best way I can by showing discipline and the chance to make things right. For example instead of giving a 0% on an assignment that they could of used to cheat on, I can offer them at a reduced 25% grade if they redid their assignment with full honesty. This disciplines the student to understand what they did was wrong and they can either be honest and take the 25% reduction after resubmitting an assignment or continue to be dishonest and take the 0%. Another solution is they can retake the assignment for the ability to be regarded for a full 100% and submit a one page paper on why Academic Dishonesty is considered frowned upon. These are positive manners to promoting a good student, instead of calling their parents or escalating the situation. I want to support my students by separating their home life from their school life as much as possible, as I believe they already have enough to worry about.

AI Implementation

The digital worlds has advanced to the point where our dreams and visions of the future are becoming reality slowly. AI being the most controversial topic whether its ethical to use or even argued as practical. I believe AI is a helpful tool that not only helps learning but enhances it to a new level. The use of AI may be harmful to students but only if taught to be used incorrectly; thus I believe that I will allow my students to use AI (if permitted by the school) as long as they cite their findings. I will set a guideline where they may ask questions and get information but not to ask the AI tool the answers for the questions. I feel like this will raise questions to most students and teachers but I believe that why would I hold back the inevitable if I know my students will use it at some point. I would rather have them use it under supervision and taught to be used as a tool not an answer sheet.

Newsletter Design Skills

Some skills I acquired from the Newsletter Design assignment is to properly use the insert image tool and utilize the two column function. I loved the idea of being able to create my own newsletter as if I was preparing for the start of the new month to be announcing exciting upcoming events. I can improve on my newsletter by getting a little more creative and start to experiment with more tools. I also believe I can add more photos and designs so it fits a little more and can be more pleasing to look at. I can use the skills I learned to create genuine newsletter for my students and student parents. It allows me to be more formal when it comes to newsletters and seem motivated to want the best for my students.

Comments

  1. Hi Alex! Let me start by saying that your newsletter is absolutely gorgeous. I agree that it was quit fun playing around with Canva and getting the hang of using a new tool. It was also very fun pretending I had a class of my own to make a newsletter for.
